How to wash hemp mattresses, duvets or pillows.
Hand wash or machine wash 30°, gentle program or dry clean.
Why use liquid?
Hemp is made up of fibre bundles, where the individual fibres look like small tub.
Hemp absorbs water to almost 60% of its weight and swells by about 30%. As the fibres swell
the voids increase. Solids from the detergent can now be washed into these. As the hemp dries,
the fibres shrink and the solids are locked in. With each wash, new particles enter the fibres.
The trapped particles do not shrink, they burst the fibres. The fabric then becomes brittle and
eventually dissolves.
How to dry hemp duvets, mattresses and pillows?
Do not tumble dry.
Let them dry flat on a surface on a towel.
Shake them from time to time so that the filling does not clump together.
